Peter McGregor
Owner and Head Trainer |
Hailing from Wagga Wagga, Australia, Peter McGregor started his riding career early on, working hard to receive his "A" rating from the Australian Junior Rider's Association (Pony Club) by the age of 18. During his junior career, Peter represented the Junior State Team for five consecutive years at the Young Rider Championships, helping to secure team wins four of the five times. After competing in the Australian 3-day event Championships at age 18, Peter was invited to ride with Charlie Micklam of England-who famously coached Linda Prior Palmer Green to her World Championship victory at Badminton.
A few years later Peter expanded into the breeding world by moving South to Victoria to manage a Holsteiner breeding farm. Throughout Peter's adult riding career, he was fortunate enough to ride with dressage greats Nuno Olivera and Harry Bolt, as well as U.S. 3 Day Event Coach, Lockie Richards. His foundation in the show jumping world has been solidified by regular clinics with Americans George Morris, Kathy Kusner and Jimmy Williams. |
Having competed at Advanced 3-Day Eventing, Grand Prix Dressage and FEI Show jumping, Peter wanted to share his experience and knowledge overseas by moving to the U.S. to start a hunter/jumper show stable.
Settling permanently in Northern California in 1999, Peter started his own training operation, Southern Cross Stables. Peter's rare recipe of experience gives way to a unique learning environment for the clients of Southern Cross. He prefers to approach each horse and rider as individuals, suppressing the negative and promoting the positive. His teaching style may seem unconventional to some, as he attempts to give riders the tools they need to become more independent in their riding over time, helping them to achieve their goals both in the show arena and at home. |
